“High performance electric car” – sounds like an oxymoron, right? Well, with what we’ve seen in recent months from companies like Tesla, BMW and others, maybe it’s time to rethink our preconceived notions about electric automobiles. In this video, Bill Caswell takes a 1995 BMW M3 that has been completely rebuilt as an electric performance car for a spin, and the results are pretty impressive.

The look on Bill’s face when he guns it is priceless – he can’t believe he just did a burnout in an electric car! The Pike’s Peak, as it has been named by electric car parts company EV West, produces 342 horsepower and a stellar 850 ft-lbs of torque, and really puts this car in the class of “performance machines”. Bill can’t stop raving about how smooth the ride is, and how easily the car accelerates. Sounds like EV West has produced yet another electric car that will make us at least reconsider what we think about these types of vehicles.

All you diehard sports car fanatics – what are your thoughts? You think there’s an electric car out there that could prompt you to make the switch, or will you stick with the gas-powered variety as long as possible? Share your thoughts below, and don’t forget to like and share.
